Service Cloud is Salesforce's customer service application. It manages cases, runs contact centre work, powers self-service and holds your knowledge base. After the October 2025 rebrand it was briefly marketed as "Agentforce Service"; the product page now uses Service Cloud again.

What it is for

Service Cloud helps teams resolve customer issues quickly and consistently across phone, digital channels and self-service. Increasingly, Salesforce positions AI agents as the first line of service, with human agents handling escalations. A good implementation designs both paths together: what an agent can resolve on its own, and how a case reaches a person with full context.

Salesforce also sells IT & HR Service Cloud (IT Service and HR Service), which was "Agentforce IT Service" and "Agentforce HR Service" in October 2025.

How it connects with other Salesforce products

  • Sales Cloud shares accounts and contacts, so service and sales see the same customer.
  • Field Service and Operations extends cases into on-site work orders and scheduling.
  • Experience Cloud sites and portals give customers self-service on the same data.
  • Marketing Cloud can send case notifications; see our service case notification blueprint.
  • Data 360 grounds AI agents in unified customer data.

Who it suits

Organisations with a meaningful volume of customer contact: support centres, B2B account support, subscription businesses, utilities and public services. If you mainly need a shared inbox, Service Cloud may be more than you need.

Planning an implementation

  1. Channels and entry points. List every way customers reach you today and which ones you will support at launch.
  2. Case model and routing. Agree case types, priorities, queues and service levels.
  3. Knowledge strategy. Decide who writes and owns articles. AI agents are only as good as the content they draw on.
  4. AI agent boundaries. Define which requests an agent may resolve, and how it hands over to a person.
  5. Integrations. Identify order, billing or product systems agents and staff need to see.

Common mistakes

  • Launching an AI agent on top of thin or outdated knowledge.
  • Recreating every legacy queue instead of simplifying routing.
  • No clear escalation path, so customers repeat themselves.
  • Reporting on volume only, rather than resolution and customer effort.

How GeekMidst can help

Our Service Cloud implementation work covers case design, routing, knowledge and reporting. We connect back-office systems through Salesforce integration services and help you scope service agents through Agentforce and AI automation.

Questions we hear

Is Agentforce Service the same as Service Cloud?
Yes. It was the October 2025 marketing name; Salesforce's service page now uses Service Cloud.
Do Knowledge Blocks need an extra licence?
Salesforce says Knowledge Blocks and AI-drafted articles need a Knowledge add-on licence.
Where does Experience Cloud fit?
Experience Cloud builds customer portals and help sites. Salesforce now markets much of this as Service Cloud self-service.
Can we start without AI agents?
Yes. Many teams launch case management and knowledge first, then add an agent once content is reliable.
