Consumer Goods Cloud explained
What Consumer Goods Cloud adds for brands selling through retailers: trade promotions, retail execution and planning advice.

Consumer Goods Cloud is Salesforce's industry cloud for brands that sell through retailers and distributors. Salesforce documents two core areas: Trade Promotion Management and Retail Execution. Together they help commercial and field teams plan promotions with retail customers and carry out work in stores. This guide explains what it adds and how to plan.
What it adds on top of Sales and Service Cloud
Industry clouds run on the Salesforce Platform alongside core CRM, so they share the same users, security model, automation tools and reporting as Sales Cloud and Service Cloud. Consumer Goods Cloud adds processes that general CRM does not cover well:
- Trade Promotion Management: planning and tracking promotions with retail accounts.
- Retail Execution: supporting field teams who visit stores.
Salesforce's Winter '27 release highlights list Merchandiser mobile, Unusable Inventory and Liability Accruals, and the CG App is listed among the apps gaining Agentforce Voice for employees. Check the release notes for the status and licensing of each.
Who it suits
It suits consumer goods manufacturers with key account teams, promotion budgets and field merchandisers. Brands selling mainly direct to consumers online are usually better served by Commerce Cloud and Marketing Cloud.
How it connects with Data 360, Agentforce and Marketing Cloud
- Data 360 can bring in retailer sell-through, shipment and promotion data alongside CRM records. See Data Cloud consulting.
- Agentforce can support field teams, for example voice in the CG App. See Agentforce and AI automation.
- Marketing Cloud handles consumer-facing campaigns, which can be co-ordinated with trade promotions.
Planning considerations
Trade promotion work depends on reliable account hierarchies, product data and financial data from ERP, so plan those integrations first. For retail execution, agree visit processes, offline needs and the mobile experience with field teams before configuration.
Ask Salesforce:
- Are Trade Promotion Management and Retail Execution licensed together or separately?
- Which core CRM licences are prerequisites?
- How are field users and mobile apps licensed?
- How are voice and agent features charged?
Common mistakes
| Mistake | Better approach |
|---|---|
| Weak account and product hierarchies | Fix master data before promotion planning |
| Designing field apps without field users | Test visit flows with real merchandisers |
| Separating finance from promotions | Integrate accruals and spend data with ERP |
