Cover of the GeekMidst Marketing Cloud Services FAQ (faq), listing sections: Which Marketing Cloud product should we be using?, Can you take over an account someone else set up?, What does a Marketing Cloud audit cover?

These are the questions we are asked most often before a Marketing Cloud engagement starts. They cover product choice, the kinds of work GeekMidst does, how we access your account and what happens after launch. If your question is not here, get in touch and we will answer it directly.

A note on names: Marketing Cloud Engagement is the established product that includes Email Studio, Journey Builder, Automation Studio, Contact Builder and CloudPages. Marketing Cloud Next is Salesforce's newer marketing application built on the core Salesforce platform and Data Cloud. Account Engagement is the B2B marketing automation product formerly called Pardot. The answers below say which product they apply to.

Marketing Cloud services: common questions

Which Marketing Cloud product should we be using?
It depends on your audience, data and team. Marketing Cloud Engagement suits high-volume B2C messaging with complex data and scripting, Account Engagement suits B2B lead nurturing close to Sales Cloud, and Marketing Cloud Next suits organisations that want marketing native to the Salesforce platform and Data Cloud. Our comparison guides go into the trade-offs.
Can you take over an account someone else set up?
Yes. We usually start with a short audit of business units, data extensions, automations, journeys and sender settings so we understand what exists before changing anything.
What does a Marketing Cloud audit cover?
Data model and data extension design, automation and journey health, AMPscript and SQL quality, deliverability setup, consent handling, user access and naming conventions. You receive a prioritised list of findings with suggested fixes.
Do you write AMPscript, SSJS and SQL?
Yes. We write and review AMPscript for personalisation and CloudPages, server-side JavaScript where it is the better fit, and SQL for Query Activities in Automation Studio, with comments and test cases.
Can you help with deliverability problems?
We can review sender authentication, list sources, bounce and complaint handling, engagement-based suppression and sending patterns. We cannot guarantee inbox placement, because mailbox providers make their own decisions.
How do you connect Marketing Cloud Engagement to Sales Cloud or Service Cloud?
Usually through Marketing Cloud Connect, which synchronises selected CRM objects into synchronised data extensions and allows sends to CRM records. We design which objects and fields to sync and how often, because over-syncing creates cost and confusion.
Can you migrate us from another email platform?
Yes. A migration covers data and consent transfer, template rebuilds, automation redesign, sender authentication and a warm-up plan for new sending infrastructure where needed.
Do you build journeys from scratch or improve existing ones?
Both. For existing journeys we look at entry criteria, re-entry settings, splits, exit rules and testing before suggesting changes.
What access do you need to our account?
A named user per consultant with only the roles and business units the work requires, ideally starting in a test business unit or sandbox-like setup. We do not ask for shared logins.
Will you send emails to our customers during the project?
Not without your explicit approval. Test sends go to seed lists and internal addresses, and any live activation is agreed with your team beforehand.
How long does a typical piece of work take?
That depends entirely on scope. A focused audit or a single journey takes far less time than a full implementation or migration, and we give an estimate once we understand the starting point.
How is the work priced?
We price after understanding scope, either as a fixed-scope project, a phased programme or time-based specialist support. Our engagement models page explains how each works.
Can you work alongside our in-house team or agency?
Yes. Engagements can involve pairing with internal marketers and developers, reviewing their work and leaving documentation so the team can continue without us.
What happens after go-live?
You can take over fully with handover documentation, or we can provide ongoing support for changes, monitoring and new campaigns under an agreed support arrangement.
