Marketing Cloud Health Check

Eight questions that show where your Marketing Cloud Engagement account is strong and where it needs work, scored in your browser.

This Marketing Cloud health check asks eight questions about how your Marketing Cloud Engagement account runs today. It covers six areas: data model and contacts, deliverability and authentication, automation reliability, journeys and testing, consent and preferences, and governance and support. Answer for the account as it is, not as it should be. Your answers stay in your browser, and the result takes a couple of minutes.

Before you start: if several business units or teams share the account, answer for the one that sends most, or run the check once per team. Ask whoever runs daily sends to answer with you, because admins and campaign builders often see different problems.

Marketing Cloud health check

Eight questions about how your Marketing Cloud Engagement account runs today. Answer for the account as it is, not as it should be. Your answers stay in your browser.

01 How is your subscriber key defined?
02 How well documented are your data extensions?
03 Is your sending domain authenticated (SPF, DKIM, DMARC) and branded?
04 When an automation or query fails, how do you find out?
05 How are journeys tested before activation?
06 How many journeys and automations have a named owner?
07 Where is marketing consent stored and checked?
08 Who can change production sends and automations?

How to use the result

You get an overall band (Early stage, Developing or Established) and a score for each area, listed weakest first. Scores reflect your answers only, so treat them as a conversation starter rather than an audit.

  • Start with the weakest area that affects sending. Deliverability, consent and automation failures can stop or damage sends, so they usually come before tidying data extensions.
  • Check the subscriber key early. If email address is the key, fixing it later is harder. Salesforce's Contact Builder links data to contacts through the Contact Key.
  • Make failures visible. Automation Studio shows errors in the Action Log; alerts and a documented fix-up procedure turn a silent failure into a quick one.
  • Share the copied result with whoever owns each area, and agree one change per area for the next quarter.

For a fuller review, our Marketing Cloud audit and optimisation service goes through each area in your account, and the deliverability checklist covers authentication in detail.

Questions we hear

Is this a full audit?
No. It is a self-assessment based on your answers. An audit looks at the account itself.
Do you see our answers?
No. Answers stay in your browser unless you choose to copy and share the result.
Does it cover Marketing Cloud Next?
The questions are written for Marketing Cloud Engagement, though many apply to any marketing platform.
How often should we repeat it?
After any major change, such as a new business unit, a migration or a change of team, and otherwise once or twice a year to track progress.
