GM1X AMPscript Studio

A browser-based editor from GeekMidst for writing, validating and testing Email and CloudPage AMPscript against test data, in a sandbox that never writes to Salesforce.

GM1X AMPscript Studio is a browser-based editor for Email and CloudPage AMPscript, built by GeekMidst ("GM1X by GeekMidst"). You write code, validate it, and run it against test data and data extensions you define, before anything goes near a live send. It is meant for the slow part of AMPscript work: finding out why a lookup returns nothing or a variable is empty, without sending test after test.

What you can do in the Studio

  • Validate and Run Email and CloudPage AMPscript against test data and data extensions you set up yourself.
  • Work through results in separate views: Problems, Preview, Debugger, Tests, Variables, Docs and Compare.
  • Run checks for Quality, Compatibility and Security.
  • Keep Versions of your code as you change it.
  • Set request parameters for CloudPages, so you can test page logic that depends on them.
  • Save projects in your browser only, and export them when you want a copy elsewhere.

The Assistant panel

The Assistant can generate, explain, fix, optimise and refactor code, suggest tests and review code for security issues. The Studio's own checks run locally first, and suggestions are shown as a diff so you can see exactly what would change before you keep it. Treat suggestions as a draft: read them, run them against your test data, and check the result in Marketing Cloud.

Try GM1X AMPscript Studio

Open the Studio in your browser and run your AMPscript against test data in a sandbox.

How to use the result

  1. Fix everything in Problems first. Then use the Debugger and Variables views to confirm each value is what you expect.
  2. Build test data that looks like production. Include empty fields, missing rows and unusual characters, because those are where AMPscript usually fails.
  3. Cover the cases that matter in the Tests view, such as a subscriber with no matching row, and run them again after each change.
  4. Save a version before each significant change, so you can return to working code.
  5. Move the code into Marketing Cloud and test there. Preview against real data extensions and send to a seed list. The Studio narrows down problems; Marketing Cloud is the final check.

Questions we hear

Does the Studio connect to our Marketing Cloud account?
You run code against test data and data extensions you define. Writes such as InsertData and UpsertDE are discarded after each run, so nothing reaches Salesforce.
Will code that runs in the Studio behave the same in Marketing Cloud?
Not always. The simulation may differ from Marketing Cloud, so test in Marketing Cloud before sending.
Where are our projects stored?
In your browser only. Use export to keep a copy or share it with a colleague.
Is Assistant output ready to send?
No. Review the diff, run the code against your test data, and test it in Marketing Cloud before sending.
