MuleSoft guide for Salesforce teams
MuleSoft is Salesforce's integration family. This guide explains Anypoint Platform, Agent Fabric, RPA and Composer, and when each fits.

MuleSoft is Salesforce's integration product family. It connects Salesforce to ERPs, databases, legacy systems and, more recently, AI agents. mulesoft.com uses the name MuleSoft ("MuleSoft with Agent Fabric"). Salesforce's own page title says "Agentforce MuleSoft", but MuleSoft is the clearer and more consistent name.
What it is for
Use MuleSoft when Salesforce has to exchange data reliably with many other systems, and point-to-point code would be hard to maintain. It is also used to publish reusable APIs, automate work in systems that have no API, and govern how AI agents reach enterprise services.
Core capabilities
| Product | What it does | Who usually uses it |
|---|---|---|
| Anypoint Platform | Design, build, run and manage APIs and integrations | Integration developers and architects |
| MuleSoft Agent Fabric | Agent registry, AI Gateway, Model Wallet and FinOps dashboard | Teams governing AI agents and model use |
| MuleSoft Omni Gateway | Gateway for managing traffic to services | Platform and security teams |
| MuleSoft RPA | Robotic process automation for screen-based tasks | Operations teams with legacy apps |
| MuleSoft Composer | No-code integration flows | Admins and business technologists |
| Intelligent Document Processing | Extracts data from documents | Teams handling invoices, forms and similar files |
MuleSoft RPA has a live product page with no end-of-sale notice. MuleSoft Composer is still documented, with release notes dated May 2026 and no retirement notice. Winter '27 adds AI Cost Management in Agent Fabric, an Agent Kill Switch and MuleSoft Headless. Salesforce has not stated a release status for these, so confirm before relying on them.
How it connects
MuleSoft connects to Salesforce clouds through standard APIs and connectors. It sits between your org and other systems, which keeps business logic for each system in one place. Salesforce lists Anypoint API Governance alongside its Guardian security portfolio. In healthcare, Salesforce documents MuleSoft Direct for Health for EHR integration with Health Cloud. For apps you host yourself, see Heroku.
Who it suits
Organisations with several core systems, an integration team or partner, and a need for reuse and monitoring. With one or two simple connections, native tools or Composer may be enough.
Planning an implementation
- 01
Inventory systems and flows
List every system, the direction of data and how fresh it must be.
- 02
Pick the right tool
Match each flow to Anypoint, Composer, RPA or native Salesforce features.
- 03
Design reusable APIs
Separate system access from business processes so APIs can be reused.
- 04
Agree error handling
Define retries, alerts and who fixes failed records.
- 05
Plan authentication
Use least-privilege integration users, and plan the move to External Client Apps before connected apps support ends in Summer '27.
Common mistakes
- Using MuleSoft to copy every field everywhere instead of deciding which system owns each record.
- Skipping monitoring until the first silent failure.
- Using RPA where a stable API already exists.
- Treating Agent Fabric as optional once agents start calling business systems.
