Salesforce Consulting in Malaysia

We work with Malaysian companies remotely from India, with about 6.5 shared working hours a day and notes on the amended PDPA to plan for.

World map at night with connection lines between regions

GeekMidst works with Malaysian companies remotely from India. We have no office, address, phone number or team in Malaysia, and every meeting is a video call. Malay is the official language under Article 152, and the government's own portal says English still dominates the language of trade and industry. We work in English only. Prices are agreed per proposal.

Malaysia is 2.5 hours ahead of India, so most of your working day overlaps ours.

Working across time zones

Malaysia is on UTC+8 with no daylight saving (a standard offset we haven't checked against an official Malaysian page), so this table holds all year.

Most states have a Saturday–Sunday weekend, but Kedah, Kelantan and Terengganu have a Friday–Saturday weekend, and Johor returned to Saturday–Sunday on 1 January 2025. For teams in Friday–Saturday states, our shared week is Monday to Thursday.

Data and privacy rules to plan for

The Personal Data Protection Act 2010 was amended by the PDP (Amendment) Act 2024 (Act A1727). Gazette P.U.(B) 522/2024 brought the amendments into force in three phases. We read the dates in a copy of the gazette hosted by a law firm; the summary of what each phase covers comes from law-firm analysis.

PDPA amendments: commencement

In force fromSectionsWhat changed (secondary summary)
1 January 2025ss.7, 11, 13, 14Mainly ancillary changes
1 April 2025ss.2–5, 8, 10, 12"Data user" becomes "data controller"; biometric data and breach defined; processors get a direct security duty; fines up to RM1m and/or 3 years' imprisonment; cross-border whitelist removed
1 June 2025ss.6, 9Data protection officer duty, breach notification, data portability
  • Breach notice. Notify the Commissioner within 72 hours, and affected people within 7 days after that where significant harm is likely. Notifications are filed through the PDP portal.
  • DPO. Needed where you process data on more than 20,000 data subjects, more than 10,000 for sensitive data, or carry out regular and systematic monitoring. The DPO must be in Malaysia at least 180 days a year or be easily contactable, must speak Malay and English, and the appointment must be notified within 21 days.
  • Direct marketing and transfers (not confirmed on any source we could read). PDPA s.43 is understood to let people stop processing for direct marketing, and transfers after the whitelist removal are understood to follow conditions and Commissioner guidelines. Check both with your legal adviser.

The regulator is the Personal Data Protection Commissioner (JPDP). Check with your legal adviser how these apply, especially the transfer conditions if people in India, including us, can access personal data. Our international data governance architecture shows the reference pattern we start from.

Salesforce data residency

Malaysia isn't listed as a hosting location for Salesforce Services in the Infrastructure and Sub-processors document of 19 December 2025. Ask Salesforce which region your org would use, and check the current list.

Services Malaysian teams ask us about

Industries

MIDA says electrical and electronics (E&E) makes up about 40% of exports, 13% of global back-end semiconductor output and 5.8% of GDP in 2023, with automotive chips, IC design and wafer fabrication targeted under NIMP 2030. DOSM reports GDP growth of 5.2% in 2025, services growth of 5.4%, and construction growth of 12.2%; services and manufacturing together make up 82.5% of GDP. See our manufacturing, automotive and professional services pages, or all locations.

How a remote engagement works

  1. 01

    Discovery call

We ask which states your teams work in, how many data subjects you hold, and whether you have a DPO.

  2. 02

    Proposal

Scope, assumptions and the agreed price.

  3. 03

    Workshops

Your late morning and afternoon, our morning and early afternoon.

  4. 04

    Build

In a sandbox, with demos in the shared window.

  5. 05

    Test and launch

Your users test before go-live; releases avoid your weekend pattern.

  6. 06

    Support

Ongoing help with releases and fixes, or a clean handover.
