Salesforce Modernization
A practical plan to modernise a Salesforce estate: technical debt, org consolidation, retiring features and auth flows, integrations, testing and rollout.

Mature Salesforce orgs collect debt: automation built in several tools, integrations on retiring authentication flows, unused fields, and products Salesforce no longer sells to new customers. Some of it is cosmetic. Some of it has a date attached, after which things stop working.
This page sets out how we approach Salesforce modernisation: finding the debt, prioritising what has a deadline, consolidating orgs where it makes sense, moving to current features, modernising integrations, and testing and rolling out without disruption. Start with an org health check.
The business problem
Debt slows every change. Admins avoid touching old automation, releases need long regression cycles, and integrations fail when Salesforce enforces a security change. Meanwhile new capabilities such as Agentforce and Data 360 assume a clean data model and current security. Modernisation is how you get there deliberately rather than in a crisis.
Changes with dates or status attached
These come from Salesforce's own pages and Winter '27 communications. Verify each against Salesforce Help for your org before planning around it.
Retirements and status changes
| Area | What Salesforce has stated | Action |
|---|---|---|
| Connected apps | Support ends Summer '27; migrate to External Client Apps | Inventory and migrate integrations |
| OAuth flows | Device flow restricted from 30 Nov 2026; username-password, user-agent and hybrid user-agent flows retire 20 Feb 2027 | Replace with supported flows |
| Refresh tokens | Expire after 30 days of inactivity from 4 Nov 2026 (production) | Check long-idle integrations |
| SOAP login() | Requires "Use Any API" from 1 Dec 2026; API 31.0–64.0 SOAP login retires Summer '27 | Update integration users and clients |
| API versions 31.0–40.0 | Deprecated Summer '27, retired Summer '28 | Upgrade callers |
| Salesforce to Salesforce | Retires Spring '27 | Replace with an integration pattern |
| Salesforce CPQ | "End of sale, not end of life"; successor Revenue Cloud Advanced | Plan the move on your timeline |
| Streaming | PushTopic and generic events labelled "(Legacy)"; Pub/Sub API is the newer API | Prefer Pub/Sub API for new work |
| Salesforce CLI | sfdx (v7) "will receive no updates"; use sf | Update scripts and pipelines |
Moving from legacy features to current ones
Automation
Flow is Salesforce's current declarative automation tool, listed among the platform's building blocks. If your org still runs Workflow Rules or Process Builder, check their current status in Salesforce Help and plan a migration to record-triggered flows, consolidating logic per object as you go. Winter '27 adds Flow Test Mode (Beta) for saved test scenarios with assertions. See record-triggered flow best practices and Flow vs Apex.
CPQ to Revenue Cloud
Salesforce states that CPQ is end of sale, not end of life: existing customers can keep using it, add users and renew, with support and critical fixes but no new features. No end-of-life date has been announced. Revenue Cloud Advanced is the successor. See our CPQ to Revenue Cloud Advanced migration plan.
Data Cloud to Data 360, and other names
Data Cloud is now Data 360; the product is the same, so this is a documentation and training change, not a migration. Other renames to reflect in your documentation include Einstein Copilot to Agentforce, and DevOps Center to Lifecycle Center in Salesforce's Winter '27 platform blog. See Salesforce product names in 2026.
Agents
From the week of 13 July 2026, new agents can only be created in the new Agentforce Builder. Legacy agents keep running and stay editable, so migrate them when you next change them.
Org consolidation
Multiple orgs are sometimes right: regulatory separation, very different business models. Often they are history. Consolidation needs a common data model, merged automation, user and permission redesign, and a data migration plan. Where orgs remain separate, replace Salesforce to Salesforce before Spring '27. See the multi-cloud architecture.
Modernising integrations
Move integrations to External Client Apps, named and external credentials, current API versions and supported OAuth flows. Replace polling with Change Data Capture or Platform Events where timeliness matters. See connected apps and OAuth changes and integration solutions.
Security boundaries
Modernisation is a chance to tighten access: one integration user per integration, least privilege, and no shared credentials. We never ask for passwords or tokens in email or chat.
Failure handling
The usual risk is behaviour that was never documented. Capture current behaviour with tests before changing it, run old and new automation side by side in a sandbox, and keep a rollback plan for each release.
Deployment model
We work remotely from India in your sandboxes, using your source control and pipeline. See the CI/CD and release management architecture.
Implementation stages
- 01
Assess
Health check: automation, integrations, auth flows, API versions, unused metadata.
- 02
Prioritise
Dated retirements first, then debt that blocks your roadmap.
- 03
Design
Target automation, integration and data model.
- 04
Build and test
Migrate in small batches with regression tests.
- 05
Roll out
Release in waves, monitor, and remove old components only after a stable period.
Testing strategy
Write tests that describe current behaviour before you migrate it, then run them against the new build. Use full or partial copy sandboxes for realistic data. Our release testing checklist and UAT test plan template help structure this.
Operational monitoring
After each wave, watch error logs, integration failures, flow faults and user-reported issues. Keep old components inactive, not deleted, until the new ones are proven.
Prerequisites and limitations
Some targets need licences: Revenue Cloud Advanced and Shield, for example. Dates above come from Salesforce communications and can change, so confirm them in Help.
